A cultural and bucolic visit to the Museum of Romantic Life

In the romantic district of New Athens, near Pigalle, can be found the Musée de la Vie Romantique, a place steeped in history. With its two artist’s studios, its courtyard and garden, this charming mansion captivates the visitor with its very special atmosphere. Formerly owned by the Dutch painter Ary Scheffer, who received his artist friends there in the 1830s, this museum paints a vivid portrait of the romantic Paris of that time. Here we find works by Ary Scheffer, plus memories of the writer George Sand and other creative giants of the 19th century such as Gounod, Dickens, Delacroix, Turgenev, Liszt and Rossini ... Don’t leave without taking a little tour of the lovely garden filled with roses and lilacs and enjoying a tea break on the old wrought iron benches or in the shelter of the greenhouse in cool weather.

 

The Rodin Museum is haunted by the story of Auguste and Camille

Valentine's Day is an opportunity to revisit one of the most famous love stories in history, the one lived by the sculptor Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel, his pupil and muse. The Hotel Biron, a mansion in the 7th arrondissement, is the home of magnificent marble and bronze creations by the Master, as well as those of his muse and mistress whose tormented existence came to a tragic end. The museum stands in a beautiful French garden which hosts legendary pieces such as the Burghers of Calais, the Thinker and the Gates of Hell.

 

The Orsay Museum; a railway station that became a temple of art

This museum pays homage to all the arts of the romantic period, from 1848 to 1914. This former railway station attracts initially with its remarkable architecture, but the interior is even more impressive due to the quantity and quality of its permanent and temporary exhibitions. Paintings, sculptures, photographs and decorative works of art are exhibited, including Edouard Manet's famous Déjeuner sur l’Herbe, the Bal du Moulin de la Galette by Renoir, the Origine du Monde of Gustave Courbet as well as famous sculptures by Rodin.
